Comment: Fourth unit built of this class comprising four units. These ships were to be a joint venture with Spain and Germany, but Spain withdrew in favour of its F100 programme, and Germany designed something different. The first two units of the class are considered Air-Defense and Command Frigates, while the two others are Air-Defense Frigates. Main difference between the two types are the facilities and accomodations for supporting the Command role. The first two ships are fitted as flagships, in which role they replace the old "Tromp" class.
