This ship belonged to the former GDR, where it first was used for transport duties ( until 1988 ), and later converted to AGI, performing its duties until 1990. On 21st december 1992 arrived to the Canary Islands where it went through a series of updates and conversions for its future use by the Spanish Navy. The work was done at ASTICAN´s facilities, at Puerto de la Luz. On 15th july 1993 it was commissioned as an ELINT platform for the Spanish Navy, and releaved patrol ship Alsedo ( who was performing those duties at the time ), fifteen days after his decommissioning. Supposedly most of its equipments and instruments are of soviet origin. It has a Saturn 3S satellite communications antenna.
